MeeeOwww PlateWrap

This PlateWrap was made for The Lincoln County Animal Shelter in Newport, Oregon. We're donating the profits from the sale of these PlateWraps to the animal shelter.

Isn't it cute?

MeeeOwww with cookies, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

The backside of this bold PlateWrap has a yellow on yellow striped fabric.

(The cookies are not included, they're just on the plate for illustration purposes.)

We tried out a couple of different Pretty Little Doo Dads with this bold PlateWrap.

I love the bright *POP!* from the yellow gerbera against the funky Meow fabric.

Here we tried it with the beaded organza pouf. Isn't this fun? I think this is my favorite.

States - KS & SC

States - KS & SC, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

Seems like I have stories about every state...

While I've never personally been to either Kansas or South Carolina, one of my friends has relatives in Kansas that she talks about all the time. She tells stories about their Victorian farmhouse, oil drilling, the family gathering at a local cafe to spend the afternoon swapping stories and yarns, huge family BBQ parties in someone's backyard, and wishing she had enough vacation time from work to spend more time out there. She talks to one her Kansas cousins every week, and has been campaigning for them to come out here to Oregon for a visit, but with the oil drilling business it's hard to get away. Since it's so hard for the gals to get together, I should suggest that my friend send her Kansas cousin a plate. That way my friend can keep an eye on the plate diary and see the stories that grow as the plate travels from one cousin to another. Then she won't feel so left out of all the fun...

South Carolina is a beautiful place, I'm told. I have an aunt and uncle who moved there from San Francisco when they retired. They live on a golf course near the ocean. In the last Christmas card they sent, Aunt D wrote that they love it there and only wished they had moved to SC sooner. They have so many more friends there (she says they live in a very friendly community) that every day is almost like a vacation. Ok, they're retired, but I'm glad to hear they're loving it. She says the culture in SC is so much more relaxed and the Southern Hospitality is a real treat. I'll be sending her a plate with some kind of treat, too, that she can share with her friends.

States - IL & NM

States - IL & NM, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

And of course, here is Illinois and New Mexico.

I have lots of friends in Illinois, and one very good friend in New Mexico.

One of my Illinois friends talks about going to family events. She's got a huge family and they all get together for birthdays and communions and anniversaries... and they have a great time. Think "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," only German Catholic instead of Greek. I need to send her one of these plates to circulate around her family. It'll be fun for them to see where the plate goes next and to share the stories of the plate's travels in the Plate Diary.

My friend in New Mexico is a long time friend whom I met in 4-H. She's now a doctor with a couple of dogs and one of those big Kitchen Aid mixers. Ok, you ask, what's the connection? I'm just pointing out that she's busy with her job and "family" but still uses her big mixer regularly to turn out cookies and bars and cakes and all kinds of amazing treats.

Then she brings them to work and gets scolded for trying to make her co-workers fat. I'll have to send her a couple plates that she can use to target her treats at people who don't complain and just happily eat her goodies... LOL

States - MA & RI

States - MA & RI, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

And of course here are two geographically small but beautiful states with close-knit communities: Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

My two stepsisters and stepbrother are from Massachusetts and their stories about family and home just south of Worchester make me wish I'd had more of that when I was growing up as an only child. That sense of community is what I'm trying to create with these plates, by encouraging people to reach out to their friends and family, and share treats and stories and smiles. It seems as if people have gotten away from socializing face to face, and hopefully these plates can be a part of reversing that trend.

Have you ever been to Rhode Island? My mom and dad lived there before I was born, when dad was in the Navy. When I was about 10, I was lucky enough to go on a family vacation there with dad and his new wife and kids. (The ones from Mass.) Oh my goodness, you should see the gorgeous and stately mansions in Providence. Dad talked about the parties and events and every time I think about RI I remember the tales of gracious entertaining. I'd love to take my hubby and kiddo there some day to show them the same things my dad showed me.

Minnesoooota. Oh, maybe you have to be from there to be able to say it like that. I lived there for over 13 years before moving to Oregon and still get teased for my Minnesooooota accent.

Have you seen the movie "Fargo" or "New in Town" (with Harry Connick Jr)? There, That's the accent I'm talking about.

...although to quote most Minnesotans regarding Frances McDormand's accent in Fargo, "We don't talk like that..."

New PlateWrap - States

Isn't this a neat PlateWrap? This one is available in a limited edition, and was created in our Wisconsin studio. Each one of these PlateWraps feature different states, and this is just one example. I haven't seen all the PlateWraps made from this fabric, so I'd only be guessing that all 50 states are featured.

States, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

At this time, they're not listed on Etsy and are only available at craft shows and art fairs, but when we do list then on Etsy, I'll be sure to note which states are shown on the listed PlateWrap so you can choose the best one for your location.

Over the next few days I'll show you close up photos of the states on this particular PlateWrap so you can see the nice detail in the pictures of the state birds and state flowers...

The Red Bandana...

I'd like to take a minute today and show you one of our PlateWraps and a couple of Pretty Little Doo Dads that can go with it. Pass It On Plates really are a fun mix and match kind of gift.
Here is the Red Bandana PlateWrap with the Sheriff Star Pretty Little Doo Dad. (And a red paint pen for writing names on the plate.)
I have a very good friend who is a cop. She might like this.

But adding in the curls, this one is kind of cowgirl-y.
Maybe a nice gift for the Country singer in the family.
My cop friend loves Country music...

Red Bandana with Primary Purple Curls Doo Dad, originally uploaded by passitonplates.
Of course, if your favorite singer of Country tunes has kids, grandkids, or favorite cousins ... their photos could go in the picture frame. Along with the curls, of course.

Red Bandana with Duo Picture Frame & Primary Purple Curls Doo Dad, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

I have to pause here and explain.

The picture frame has a locking pin on the back, so you can take it off your PlateWrap and pin the photos to a jacket, purse, car visor, etc. Just think of it as an extra little gift.

And you can pick curls in red, blue, and purple like the pictures you saw above, you you can go for primary colors. I think I like the bright yellow ribbon best. It pops.

Red Bandana with Primary Curls Doo Dad, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

Oh, yes, and we can't forget the primary curls with the picture frame. Just in case your favorite Country singer with two favorite people likes yellow more than purple...

But if you want to give this to someone who is a cop, loves Country music (or just bandanas, I don't judge) and has at least two favorite people in the whole wide world, this might do the trick.
Really, when I created this one, I had just baked some Cowboy Cookies and was giving it to a friend whose two grandsons are into cowboys. She thought it was absolutely adorable.

Urban Camoflauge

I love this.
I'm a huge fan of Ikea (where these are shot) and can imagine this kind of goofiness going on in my local Ikea store.
Here is some creative (albeit risky) fun for you to giggle at...
See the messy pile of boxes on the right?

... see the feet under the pile of boxes?

And this one cracks me up.

There are many many more pictures of the folders and boxes that are sure to make your inner child grin from ear to ear.

These kinds of shenanigans not only make me smile but put my creative side in gear. (And make me wish I had the guts to try something like this myself.)

Visit Urban Camoflauge to see that they do with the Ikea's yellow bags.

Featuring KanYoFuse

In the comments of our Share The Love Giveaway, Reva Skie said... I adore this fused glass necklace.

I agree. This is really neat. Clueless about glass fusion, I wonder how KanYoFuse makes these cool looking pieces of eye candy, but I think I should stop thinking about it and just enjoy the amazing colors. This is SO cool.

Kevin from KanYoFuse writes in his description,

"Okay, Everyone that is ready for Spring, raise your hand. lol

Wow! More is better.

Kanyofuse has joined forces with Moonrise Creations to make some amazing necklaces. I was at my first craft fair in December and I was placed next to another jeweler that does amazing beaded jewelry, fellow Etsian, Moonrise Creations.

We decided to fuse our talents (no pun intended) and go in cahoots. This necklace is amazing with Swarovski crystals, black beads, and green glass accents. "

Here's another one that I think reminded him of cherry blossoms. I see it too.

This is beautiful and would match at least half my wardrobe.

Of course, every time someone points out a neat Etsy shop, I have to read the artist's profile and browse through the shop looking for my own favorites. KanYoFuse has a great sense of humor and he's got a very special model named Ace. (Oh, so true to Portland, Oregon. I love Portland and drive up there every chance I get...)

There are other *ahem* unconventional models that totally make me smile the biggest smile my face has smiled in a long time. The pink pendant is lovely, as is the model. I won't ruin the surprise. Just click here:

(nice 'guns,' by the way...)

I'm still smiling.
What's your favorite item at KanYoFuse?

.

PS: I just peeked at the first comment here before logging off for the evening. Wow. Yeah, I can see why it's a favorite and had to share.

It's listed here: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=vl_other_1&listing_id=21928685

I'm not a stoner but...

I think this is hilarious. My invisible friend, Libby (I mentioned her earlier this week, remember? She makes all kinds of soaps and detergents...) has this posted in her Etsy shop.

The picture of the pretty green soap caught my eye, but then I saw the description and my eyes nearly bugged out of my head.
How could I resist clicking to see what the heck she's got going on in her shop?

Here are her photos and her complete description. (Republished with permission.)

Marijuana 420 time vegan soap smells like bud weed stank weed

Have I lost my mind? Nope but I am well on my way with this Stank weed soap!

Wouldnt this get you fired from your job with a quickness? Got a job you hate and don't have the nerve to tell them where to shove it? Bathe in this, let me make you some laundry soap out of it too and go to work smelling like Tommy Chong.

Want to break up? Dont have the heart?
Make her think you have been out partying with the local dealers who look a lot like Jay and Silent Bob.

Just think of all the applications for this soap! It really stinks guys and it really smells like the real deal. Stick it under someones car seat and hope they get pulled over and the cop gets a whiff of it hehehehe

Or if you just love the smell of bud you can bathe in this till its allll gone.

This listing is for a smaller amount than usual, its about 2 to 3 ounces and has loads of shea butter if you decide to bathe with it, it will make you soft as well as stinky.

There was no real bud used in the making of this soap I swear!
Added on Feb 4, 2009

Of course, I had to show this to all my peeps at work (the day job) and we all had a good laugh about it... then we discussed the possibilities...

I love the fairy prints in this shop! They are so pretty!
The shop she loves is Bealoo Kids and I can see why she loves them. They're fresh and fun, and they have a magical quality about them...
How perfect would this print be for a little girl's room?
Fairies and Flowers

Bealoo Kids offers free personalization to their prints. Can you just imagine your little one's name written on the star that this fairy is reaching for?

Blossom Fairy Bealoo Kids has a website as well. I was poking around different pages in the website and was interested to learn that Bealoo started when two artistic moms met on a play date and their skills ended up converging into this talented shop.

Magic StarGot a lively little boy who's not into fairies?
If he loved dinosaurs, trucks, lions, and other exciting things, you may find a new favorite at Bealoo Kids.

Green Living Ideas

I realize the giveaway challenge may be a little tricky to figure out what would you (or someone) live more green, so here are some of my ideas:

This re-useable shopping bag from Yvonne Totes is gorgeous. I'm still guilty of using the bad bags and need to get myself some eco friendly bags for market day. This would make me a lot happier with my grocery shopping. Plus, this kind of bag won't flop all over the back of my car. I really don't care for cans of green beans rolling all over the place when I take a sharp corner. (And my hubby says I drive like I'm in roller derby, so you bet I have a lot of plastic bags spilling the goods on the way home.)

+++++++++++

My daughter is interested in trying reuseable pads like these from Effie the Pixie . Don't tell anyone I mentioned it or she'll be mortified. This will not only keep yucky out of the landfills, but will prevent the dog from finding what we call "illegal snacks" in the bathroom while everyone's at work/school during the day. Of course, I'm not so sure I'll want to be washing these, but I'm sure we'd both get used to it. After all, the stuff we'd be washing out would be all natural...

+++++++++++

Don't let the looks of this laundry detergent from Maylee's Garden fool you. I almost feel stupid pointing this out because it's so obvious and I can't believe I haven't already started using this myself. Libby, who makes the soap is one of my invisible friends (we met online and I read her blog regularly, so that makes us friends... only invisible, because I've never seen her. Get it?) Libby's soap is all vegan, all natural, and I don't know where she gets her scents but she has a HUGE variety of scents available. When I read the description, I was floored when she said that a tablespoon is all she needs to clean her mechanic husband's clothes and baby stains.

And this bag is only $3? And it smells great?

Pfhht. Where have I been?

Oh, and get this: she'll turn any of her bar soaps into laundry detergent, so if you have a particular favorite scent, she'll do it.

+++++++++++

Ok. One more... The label on this kitchen and bathroom cleaner from the Green Family Tree cracks me up. I love Anne Taintor art and this reminds me of it. Anyway, I hate the chemical smell left behind from a lot of cleaning products, and when I'm done I wonder how it's going to go down the drain. An all natural cleaner that kills the bad stuff without killing the good stuff sure makes a lot of sense.

Bye bye, Mr. Clean... hellooo Abuelita Lidia!

So now that you've seen some of my ideas on what products help people live green, I can't wait to see what you come up with in your comments on this month's Big Green Giveaway!
