Introducing a brand-new category of Pass It On Plates: handpainted designs!
These new handpainted plates are ready to be loaded with treats and passed around to your friends. This particular plate is listed here in our Etsy shop and is available for $15 (USD.)

This plate is the "Oh My Stars!" plate. My Gram used to exclaim "Oh my stars!" when she learned about something wonderful or amazing.

This plate has red and yellow stars scattered all over the surface and the words "Pass It On... Pass It On... Pass It On..." around the inside of the rim. On the back is a unique tracking number that goes to its online diary. This plate is also part of the Plate Diary Dollars program, and we donate money to FeedingAmerica.org every time a plate diary entry is made and the plate is passed to another person.

More new hand painted plates

This is literally fresh out of the oven.
I love these new Pass It On Plates, don't you?
You probably know by now that I have a thing for swirls...

Don'cha just love it?

This photo was taken on my dining room table as soon as it came out of the oven. I couldn't wait to set up my photo equipment to show you what's new.

I think this next one is a favorite. I have a new PlateWrap coming up that would be PERFECT with this one.

These plates have their number on the back and the Plate Diary is active and ready to go.

And of course like all our other plates, when you pass them on, we donate money to FeedingAmerica.org to help feed hungry Americans. This year the need is greater than ever, and they need all the help they can get.

I think this is one of my favorites. I can think of several PlateWraps that this would look great with, too.

New plates!

What do you think of this?

It's a 9 inch plate, a little smaller than our usual plates, but perfect for a snack.

Actually, the price is perfect. We're going to be selling these plates exclusively at craft shows and Saturday markets in the Salem area all summer long
...for just $5 each!

And it's less complicated, since it's just an Original Pass It On Plate - one of our popular numbered plates - without all the frills and doo dads to mess with.

So... should we call these the Snack Size Pass It On Plate? How about a Mini Pass It On Plate? Or should we go with Small Pass It On Plate and Large Pass It On Plate?

Actually, I think we should have a contest and sent out a set of these to whoever comes up with the winning name. What do you think?

Here's a teaser for what's coming...

Isn't that a pretty plate?
You almost don't even need anything else to go with it...

...and without the PlateWrap, the Pretty Little Doo Dad, and the ceramic paint pen, it's probably priced a lot lower, too...

Stay tuned to see what else is brewing in our studio!

New PlateWrap - States

Isn't this a neat PlateWrap? This one is available in a limited edition, and was created in our Wisconsin studio. Each one of these PlateWraps feature different states, and this is just one example. I haven't seen all the PlateWraps made from this fabric, so I'd only be guessing that all 50 states are featured.

States, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

At this time, they're not listed on Etsy and are only available at craft shows and art fairs, but when we do list then on Etsy, I'll be sure to note which states are shown on the listed PlateWrap so you can choose the best one for your location.

Over the next few days I'll show you close up photos of the states on this particular PlateWrap so you can see the nice detail in the pictures of the state birds and state flowers...

New product in testing mode...

While I can't tell you what new product is being tested, I can tell you it makes it easier to send Pass It On Plates to far away locations.

It's also fine for people who don't bake and great for people who are watching what they eat.

Oh, and can I mention how great this is as a way to spread information about a special cause? (More on that later - some of those particulars are still being worked out.)

I asked a few of my dear friends to test some of these new products.

So, Dear Friends, what did you think? Don't worry about spoilers. If the instructions made sense, were easy to follow and duplicate, and you liked the overall concept, everyone else will find out soon enough. If the product needs more work, I like to think of "spoilers" more as teasers for what's to come.

Thank you!
-Pam

Yes! We have a third exciting thing to announce!

New PlateWraps! New Pretty Little Doo Dads!

This one is so exciting that we're actually dragging our carcasses out of bed at the crack of dawn to go outside and take pictures of all the awesome new stuff.

Green Gingham with Thanks tiles, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

Donna in Wisconsin and her coffee klatsch of seamstresses made PlateWraps that were for sale only in the midwest. Pam in Oregon, (our chief photographer, blogger & Etsy manager) sewed up a bazillion PlateWraps that were for sale only in Oregon or online.

Donna was nice enough to send a big care package with several selections from her studio, and for the first time we have her beautiful PlateWraps and Pretty Little Doo Dads available online.

This charming gingham check is one of them. The words "THANKS" are spelled out in our latest Pretty Little Doo Dad, Letter Tiles. You can order these either by the letter or by the word. (Wouldn't they look great on a denim jacket, too?)

Check back often as we unveil more of Donna's stunning designs.

...so why do we have goosebumps?

Something we're even more excited about is:
Now you can Mix-n-Match your Pass It On Plate!

This one has us so excited to announce that we've got goosebumps up and down our arms.

We noticed people liked putting together their own combination of plate, PlateWrap, Pretty Little Doo Dad, and pen color when they bought from us at craft shows. Our friends all said they wanted the same thing when "talking plates" with us.

It's a totally custom Pass It On Plate or Pass It On Plate. Just tell us what you want when you place your order and we'll put it together for you. You can browse everything in the shop and if you see something you love, you can have it in your Mix-n-Match PIOP.

So what combination of PlateWrap, Pretty Little Doo Dad, and pen color would you put together?

Why are our heads all tingly?

We're so excited to announce this that the tops of our heads are all tingly.

Introducing the Pass It On Plate Lite:
Due to popular demand and after a lot of testing and surveying, the first new thing that we have is the Pass It On Plate Lite. Or the PIOP Lite. Basically, it's everything in the Original Pass It On Plate but the plate. You can learn more about what's included here.

The PIOP Lite is easy to customize with your own plate, pie pan, serving bowl, platter, etc.
It's a fun crafty project that requires no special equipment or sewing skills.
The PIOP Lite is a great item to keep on hand for thank you gifts or hostess gifts - The lucky person you give it to will be amazed at your cleverness and they'll remember youf gift forever.

Like making jello, you just need about an hour or so to get your PIOP Lite ready to give. (You will also need a plate or other 11"-13" dish to use that you are willing to alter and give away.)

Just the number, Ma'am

Call me crazy, but I have started selling numbers.

No, this has nothing to do with horse racing or gambling.
I'm not in the stock market or involved in any Multi Level Marketing plan.

These tracking numbers are not used to bring lost dogs or cats home, they're not used to identify a batch of canned pears, and have nothing to do with trains.

Pears, originally uploaded by Jennifwr.

Have you ever made or had a sentimental item that you know would pass from friend to friend?
Have you ever thought how interesting it would be if you could track its journey from person to person? Hmmm, how in the world could you do that?

Aha! Add a tracking number to it!
This great idea is now available in my Etsy shop.

Wouldn't it be neat to be able to tell the story of certain baby items as they travel from one baby to the next?

You could add a number to a Christening gown, a stroller, a play pen, fancy dress clothes, a swing, crib, etc...

Christening Gown, originally uploaded by JJ Knits.

Don't forget those cherished wedding items that you only use once but that your friends need when they tie the knot -
  • Wedding items that are either old, new, borrowed, or blue?
  • Wedding cake toppers or cake knives
  • Wedding champagne glasses

Celebration toast with champagne, originally uploaded by dotw.

Can you think of other items that are just begging for a tracking number?
Try adding a tracking number to:
  • Aprons
  • Tote bags
  • Wine bottle stoppers
  • Cloth gift bags
  • Gift baskets (the actual basket)

...and don't forget to try:
  • Pot luck dishes and serving utensils
  • Cake pans
  • Casserole dishes

What other items can you think of?

Your unique tracking number can be written, embroidered, painted, stamped, fused, decoupaged, quilted, added to a tag or label, or attached to your item any way you like.

Visit my Etsy shop and get your tracking number today!

A "good day at the office"

Guess what I did today! I packed up a tote bag full of good stuff, grabbed the camera, and went to the park. It was a beautiful day with plenty of sun and I didn't want to be cooped up inside while I worked.

One of each of EVERYTHING, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

So guess what was in my tote bag?
(That's the big light blue bag on the left end of the table.)

I put one of each of all my PlateWraps in it, a box containing one of every kind of Pretty Little Doo Dad, a big white sheet, and an empty plate. On my way to the park I stopped at a grocery store and asked them to load the plate with their huge cookies.

Makeshift photo studio, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

Here's where I took today's pictures.

The butterfly PlateWrap is on the plate full of cookies with the turquoise paint pen. That Pretty Little Doo Dad on top is the pink organza bow.

Piled on the table to the left are aaaallllllllll the PlateWraps. In the plastic shoe box are every style of Pretty Little Doo Dad available so far.

It was a perfect day to take pictures, and I shot as many as I could until the camera battery died. (About 158, I think?) There are still several PlateWraps left to shoot, so if next Wednesday is nice, I'll head back to the park and take the rest of the pictures. I'm so glad I did this and will definitely plan to return to the park when the next batch of PlateWraps are ready.

Meanwhile, be sure to check back here often as I share some pictures of the new Pass It On Plates. There are some really fun PlateWraps coming up as well as a totally cool gift idea for Grandma or Auntie from the kiddos. Also - attention animal lovers! We have two new cat and two new dog PlateWraps coming up and boy oh boy are they cute! I'll be posting these in our Etsy shop over the next several weeks so be sure to check it out.

Speaking of Etsy, there are some good changes coming up for you over there as well. Some totally new items are in the testing stage and we can't wait to unveil them as soon they're ready!

Until then... come back tomorrow when we have some more exciting things going on!

The Pass It On Plate LITE

Here's just a brief note to tell you what a Pass It On Plate Lite is.

To explain, I'll start describing the Original Pass It On Plate. This item is the one currently for sale in our Etsy store.
It comes in a box and includes:

  • The plate with a tracking number on it
  • The special paint pen
  • A PlateWrap
  • A Pretty Little Doo Dad
  • and Instructions to pass along with the plate

The Pass It On Plate Lite is basically everything but the plate.
It includes:

  • The special paint pen
  • A PlateWrap
  • A Pretty Little Doo Dad
  • and instructions to pass along with the plate.
  • Because it does not already come with a plate, you get tips on how to buy the right kind of plate, easy instructions on what to write on the plate with the special paint pen, AND your own tracking number for the plate.

Why would we make Pass It On Plates without the plate?
Yes, it does seem a little crazy, but this can be shipped to you in an envelope. It is a more affordable item in our Etsy shop, there is less worry over breakage during shipping, and you can personalize it by using whatever plate you would like. Plus, it makes a quick and fun little craft project when you can write on your own plate.

For more general information about Pass It On Plates, please visit our FAQ.

New PlateWrap!

My friend Susan wanted a Pass It On Plates made with a special fabric so she could take it to a family wedding in California. I told her I'd see what I have and went home and looked through my fabric collection. (Please tell me you're not surprised to hear that I have a pretty huge fabric collection.)

This lovely sheer fabric with squares slid out of the stack and I knew that was the one. I cut up and sewed the entire piece of fabric and have a total of four PlateWraps made from this sheer bit of lovely. Look - you can see the chocolate chip cookies and flying plate logo through the PlateWrap. It really is so pretty.

Sheer white squares, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

The back band is a white-on-white calico and I was careful to use white and neutral threads when sewing it so the stitching would not be so obvious if seen through the sheer top.

Sheer white squares back, originally uploaded by passitonplates.

Susan wanted her sheer fabric on a red plate because the wedding colors are red and white. I'll share a picture of her plate in a couple days - I just wanted to show you how nice this turned out. Oh, and the black thing behind the bow is the paint pen that travels with each plate. The pen could be pinned to the inside of the white band on the back if you want to hide it.
